Report: Electric Vehicles on the Road in Colorado from December 1, 2020

Dri­ve Elec­tric Col­orado presents a month­ly EVs in Col­orado report. Using data from the Col­orado Ener­gy Office's EV Dash­board and the Alter­na­tive Fuel­ing Sta­tion Loca­tor from the Depart­ment of Ener­gy, Dri­ve Elec­tric Col­orado pro­vides the most cur­rent and accu­rate sales data for EVs and charg­ing data by coun­ty, make/model, and elec­tric vehi­cle type.

As of Decem­ber 1, 2020, there were 31,771 EVs on the road in Col­orado, up from 30,917 EVs since Novem­ber 1.

Key points from the most cur­rent data since Decem­ber 1, 2020:

  • Elec­tric car sales were up 2.68% (+854 EVs) from Novem­ber 1 and up 18.7% (+5,958 EVs) from Jan­u­ary 1, 2020.
  • Top sell­ing elec­tric car makes: 
    • Tes­la
    • Nis­san
    • Chevro­let
    • BMW
    • Ford

There are cur­rent­ly 949 pub­lic charg­ing sta­tions with 2,766 charg­ing out­lets avail­able in Col­orado. With­in this total, 866 of these sta­tions and 2,375 charg­ing out­lets are Lev­el 2 charg­ers, and 117 of these sta­tions and 391 charg­ing out­lets are Lev­el 3/DC fast charg­ers. In addi­tion, 54 of the total sta­tions are owned by local/municipal gov­ern­ments, 226 sta­tions are pri­vate­ly owned, 12 sta­tions are owned by the state, and 7 sta­tions are owned by a util­i­ty.* Due to insuf­fi­cient data, we do not know whom the remain­ing charg­ing sta­tions are owned by.
