Dri­ve Elec­tric Col­orado presents an EVs in Col­orado report. Using data from the Col­orado Ener­gy Office’s EV Dash­board and the Alter­na­tive Fuel­ing Sta­tion Loca­tor from the Depart­ment of Ener­gy, Dri­ve Elec­tric Col­orado pro­vides the most cur­rent and accu­rate sales data for EVs and charg­ing data by coun­ty, make/model, and elec­tric vehi­cle type.

As of Feb­ru­ary 1, 2021, there were 33,653 EVs on the road in Col­orado, up from 31,771 EVs since Decem­ber 1, 2020. Of this total, 23,351 were bat­tery elec­tric vehi­cles (BEV) and 10,302 were plug-in hybrid elec­tric vehi­cles (PHEV).

Key points from the most cur­rent data since Feb­ru­ary 1, 2021:

  • Elec­tric car sales were up 5.92% (+1,882 EVs) from Decem­ber 1, 2020.
  • Top sell­ing elec­tric car makes: 
    • Tes­la
    • Nis­san
    • Chevro­let
    • BMW
    • Ford

There are cur­rent­ly 3,862 total charg­ing ports avail­able in Col­orado. With­in this total, 3,328 of these are Lev­el 2 charg­ers, and 518 of these Lev­el 3/DC fast charg­ers. Charge­Point Net­work owns most of these Lev­el 2 ports (1,908) and Tes­la owns the most DC fast charg­er ports (197). From quar­ter 2 of 2020 (April 1 – June 3), there was an aver­age of 518 active charg­ing sta­tions, with 53,213 hours of charg­ing over 26,963 charg­ing sessions.

Boulder County

  • 5,737 elec­tric vehi­cles (4,313 BEVs and 1,424 PHEVs)
  • 70 EV models
  • High­est num­ber of Nis­sans: 1,761
  • High­est num­ber of Toy­otas: 257
  • High­est num­ber of Fiat-Chryslers: 172
  • High­est num­ber of Kias: 82

Denver County

  • 5,344 elec­tric vehi­cles (3,694 BEVs and 1,650 PHEVs)
  • 66 EV models
  • High­est num­ber of Tes­las: 2,391
  • High­est num­ber of BMWs: 310
  • High­est num­ber of Fords: 192
  • High­est num­ber of Volvos: 171
  • High­est num­ber of Aud­is: 148

Jefferson County

  • 4,312 elec­tric vehi­cles (3,018 BEVs and 1,294 PHEVs)
  • 68 EV models
  • High­est num­ber of Chevys: 627

Arapahoe County

  • 3,739 elec­tric vehi­cles (2,671 BEVs and 1,068 PHEVs)
