Stakeholder Spotlight — City of Lakewood

April 11, 2023

Drive Electric Colorado is excited to share one of our Community Partners, the City of Lakewood! Lakewood is one of Denver’s largest suburbs with close to 156,000 residents, over 7,000 acres of parks and open spaces, and 240 miles of trails and shared-use paths. The City of Lakewood currently has a 10-year Sustainability Plan consisting of various goals, with quite a few regarding sustainable transportation. Lakewood is proud to be one of the first front-range communities to adopt EV readiness requirements in zoning and building codes, with the installation of one of their first public charging stations more than 10 years ago! Lakewood believes that electrifying vehicles is just one piece of the overall picture of transitioning to a more sustainable transportation system.

Christy Cerrone, Sustainable Neighborhood Program Coordinator, works with the City to implement projects, workshops, and activities to help make their neighborhoods more sustainable and vibrant places to live. The City of Lakewood works together with Drive Electric Colorado for events like the Lakewood Earth Day Celebration, coordinating the Electric Transportation Hub where Drive Electric Colorado volunteers showcase and share their electric vehicles and e‑bikes alongside ride-and-drives for attendees to test drive a variety of electric vehicles. Last year nearly 3,000 people attended the Earth Day Celebration, and the Electric Transportation Hub was one of the biggest highlights of the day!

Christy expressed that, “Drive Electric Colorado helps us provide education for the public at events like the Earth Day Celebration, and also supports strategic planning and policy development by connecting us with peers across the region to develop and identify best practices, access data, and hear updates on policy changes other communities are implementing.  We appreciate the network and support that we have through Drive Electric Colorado.”
