Quarterly EVs on the Road in Colorado

Dri­ve Elec­tric Col­orado presents a Quar­ter­ly EVs in Col­orado report.

Using data from the Col­orado Ener­gy Office’s EV Dash­board and the Alter­na­tive Fuel­ing Sta­tion Loca­tor from the Depart­ment of Ener­gy, below is the most cur­rent and accu­rate sales data for EVs and charg­ing data by coun­ty, make/model, and elec­tric vehi­cle type.

As of July 7, 2023, there were 86,017 EVs on the road in Col­orado, up 7.3% from 80,192 EVs since April 7, 2023. Of this total, 61,148 were bat­tery elec­tric vehi­cles (BEV) and 24,869 were plug-in hybrid elec­tric vehi­cles (PHEV). EVs make up around 1.79% of all vehi­cles on the road in Col­orado. There are approx­i­mate­ly 15.03 EVs per 1,000 people.

The aver­age EV range in Col­orado is 191.78. Aver­age BEV range is 254.36 miles while PHEV range is 29.85 miles. Aver­age BEV MSRP is $44,944.51 while aver­age PHEV MSRP is $52,486.69.

The most com­mon com­mute time is between 15–30 min­utes (37.59%), with com­mutes 30–60 min­utes com­ing in sec­ond (29.05%) and com­mutes 15 min­utes or less falling close­ly behind (26.28%).

There are cur­rent­ly 4,908 Total pub­lic charg­ing ports avail­able in Col­orado, up 233 ports from April 7, 2023. With­in this total, 4,025 of these are Lev­el 2 charg­ers and 883 of these are Lev­el 3/DC fast charg­ers. Charge­Point Net­work has pro­vid­ed most of these Lev­el 2 ports (2,267) and Tes­la owns the most DC fast charg­er ports (372). Charg­ing ports are up 4.98% over­all this quarter.
