Phil Long EV Outlet — Colorado Springs' First Used EV Outlet

The Phil Long EV Out­let is the first used car deal­er­ship of its kind in Den­ver and South­ern Col­orado to exclu­sive­ly sell hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and all-elec­tric vehi­cles, and is con­ve­nient­ly locat­ed off i‑25 in Col­orado Springs. We spoke with Robert Strange, Sales and Store Man­ag­er of the EV Out­let, who gave us more details on this new, inno­v­a­tive deal­er­ship. Robert has been in the auto indus­try for 13 years, but this is his first time at a deal­er­ship that pri­or­i­tizes elec­tric vehi­cles. He said EVs were impor­tant because of their zero tailpipe emis­sions which con­tribute to a health­i­er envi­ron­ment and the ease of charg­ing that saves time and money. 

The EV Out­let was estab­lished by the own­er of the Phil Long fran­chise, who believed con­sumers need­ed a place to explore elec­tric vehi­cles, and that cre­at­ing this deal­er­ship would put Phil Long ahead of the curve as elec­tric vehi­cles become more preva­lent in Col­orado. Robert has sim­i­lar sen­ti­ments, pre­dict­ing that the EV Out­let will be one of the top spots in the state for prospec­tive EV owners. 

The EV Out­let had its soft open­ing on Sat­ur­day, May 8. A num­ber of con­sumers and util­i­ties stopped by to talk about elec­tric vehi­cles and charg­ing sta­tion oppor­tu­ni­ties. Since then, con­sumers have con­tin­ued to vis­it and to test-dri­ve vehi­cles. The EV Out­let will be host­ing its grand open­ing in mid-July, which will be a larg­er event with promi­nent pub­lic fig­ures, speak­ers, music, and food. Dri­ve Elec­tric Col­orado will also be present to pro­vide sup­port and to answer con­sumer ques­tions and will be part­ner­ing with the Phil Long EV Out­let to bring edu­ca­tion and resources to EV own­ers and first-time buyers.

The EV Out­let builds its inven­to­ry with cars from oth­er deal­er­ships in the area, includ­ing from oth­er Phil Long deal­er­ships, and con­sumers may also trade in their used EVs when they vis­it the EV Out­let. All the vehi­cles, most of which have low mileage, receive a rig­or­ous inspec­tion that checks for any mechan­i­cal and pow­er­train issues, and the bat­ter­ies are all test­ed to ensure they charge as they should. 

There may not be pub­lic charg­ers avail­able to the pub­lic yet, but Robert men­tioned plans to install 6–10 com­pli­men­ta­ry Lev­el 2 and DC Fast Charg­ing sta­tions for con­sumers to use when they vis­it the deal­er­ship. Cur­rent­ly, there are Lev­el 1 charg­ers on-site.
